Located in a neighborhood of 1950s ramblers, we designed this home for an artist, an English professor, and their two teenaged kids.

Important to our clients was creating maximum space while maintaining a low-profile on the street, and capitalizing on the light and views of Mount Rainier to the south.

The result was a 1200 square foot upper story and dining room addition as well as a main floor remodel within the existing 1800 square foot home. The stairs were relocated and situated in the middle of the open plan to delineate the living spaces, while carefully preserving the home’s original brick façade.

“THE HUSBAND-AND-WIFE architectural team’s remodeling take resulted in a roomier 3,192 square-foot house that melds its 1950s foundation with its new addition’s coolly contemporary aesthetic.”

Floisand Studio was sensitive to our budget while coming up with unique design solutions that reflected our personalities and our special requests (re-use of certain materials). Floisand Studio connected us to a great contractor and some very skilled subs, went the extra mile when we were out of town during construction, and generally made the process very smooth and satisfying.
