Overlooking Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains beyond, this home was designed for a family of four on a rare unimproved northwest lot. The three-story house parallels the shoreline and steps with the natural slope, engaging expansive water views, mature trees, and a meandering stream. The presence of water is constant—visible from nearly every room and anchoring the home’s spatial experience.

Arrival unfolds along a stepped paver path and east-facing shade garden, with filtered views of the Sound emerging between plantings and a wood privacy screen, before opening up to a custom copper-clad front door.

Inside, an elevated circulation spine organizes the main level, linking the living spaces, central stair, guest wing and garage. A sunken living and dining area is divided by a double-sided fireplace. The area is bracketed by a floating wood-and-glass stair to the north and the kitchen to the south. Along the west elevation, floor-to-ceiling glazing and folding doors open to a series of stepped terraces, extending daily life outward toward the view.

Upstairs, west-facing bedrooms overlook the water, while clerestory and frosted glazing maintain privacy from the street. Throughout, crafted details and custom millwork reinforce the home’s warm, material-driven character.

  • “THE RESULT, EXPERTLY EXECUTED by Ainslie-Davis Construction, is a quietly dramatic, three-level collaboration of transparency and connection, in three parts: a big, roomy garage; an enclosed breezeway that connects it to the home; and the home itself, which cranks off-axis to align with the site slope and shoreline.” Sandy Deneau Dunham, Pacific NW Magazine

  • We wanted the house to be an expression of us - something unique. For us, it’s making a dream come true. We wanted something in the end that expressed our personalities and we had a part of. A lot is invested for us with the “We wanted the house to be an expression of us - something unique. For us, it’s making a dream come true.
